Students enrolled in choir classes at Palo Alto High School for the 2015-2016 school year are invited to audition for Paly Choir’s a cappella groups tomorrow during advisory and after school in the choir room.
Students are asked to prepare a chorus and verse from a pop song of their choice, according to junior Sean Jawetz, a current member of the all-male a cappella group known as the Heartbreakers. In addition, all auditioners should learn their respective parts in the song “FourFiveSeconds,” by Rihanna, prior to the audition. At auditions, current a cappella members will test auditioners on vocal range, and ask them to sing a cappella in groups.
All four a cappella groups – Heartbeats, Heartbreakers, Folk Yes and Vikapella – have openings for the upcoming year. Jawetz encourages anyone interested in singing or getting more involved in choir to audition.
“It’s an opportunity for anyone in choir to become a part of one of the most accessible forms of choral music,” Jawetz said. “It’s a ton of fun, and they are all student run so it’s not a huge time commitment.”
