Palo Alto High Schools Associated Student Body hosted the first ever Town Hall, an event where students had the opportunity to provide feedback to student representatives about different aspects of school life, from advisory curriculum to mental well-being. According to Seah, the diversity of the participants was crucial towards ensuring the quality of the discussions. “Even just having a good array [of participants] can help to represent students and bring really thoughtful feedback,” Seah said. “I think it will be super helpful in implementing the next steps, whether it be an advisory curriculum, the Wellness Center, or just general school [issues].” (Photo: Paly ASB Website)

According to sophomore President Julian Hong, the event aims to help students stay cool. Paly Teacher Student Association bought Popsicles for us, and its a very hot day we decided to hand them out today just to help the students cool down.

As part of the Palo Alto High School Associated Student Body’s effort to promote student mental health amid prolonged stressful circumstances, students will engage in daily mental health challenges throughout the upcoming Wellness Week from March 22 to 26. According to ASB Clubs Commissioner Johannah Seah, Wellness Week will provide students with the opportunity to learn about managing their mental health and integrate helpful practices into their lives. “I thought it would be a great idea, especially since Paly is a very stressful environment,” Seah said. “I think knowing more about the wellness resources and how we can be advocates for ourselves is a really good tool for students.” Graphic: Kabir Advani

Students can enjoy performances and a raffle during a city-wide virtual open mic night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The event will be hosted by four Palo Alto schools — Palo Alto High School, Gunn High School, Castilleja School and Kehillah Jewish High School — along with Teen Arts Council. Even though it’s hard to get into the holiday spirit during the pandemic, open mic is a great way to kick off Thanksgiving break and connect with people, TAC President Emma Cudahy said. The Paly Road Cycling Club bikes on Cañada Road during its first club meeting. Club members practiced social distancing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. It was great to get to know some fellow Paly cyclists, said James Fetter, co-president of the club. Some people who were inexperienced struggled a little bit, but overall it was a good ride.

Students brought up what they wanted in a new Paly principal, including one-on-one connection between students and administration, and improving student wellness. Hendricks said the Needs Assessment meetings are instrumental to gain community insight on the principal search. “This gathering of thinking is an extremely important part of the recruiting and hiring process,” Hendricks said.
