Palo Alto High School principal Kim Diorio announced her intent to resign at the end of the 2017-2018 school year in a message to staff, students and parents this morning. Assistant principal Adam Paulson said he is saddened by the news and that finding a replacement will be a monumental challenge. “[managing] A school like Paly requires that you have the whole package so that’s going to be difficult to find [in a new principal],” Paulson said. A Paly senior examines one of Golden-Globe winning Paly alumnus James Franco’s paintings displayed in the Media Arts Center. Palo Alto Unified School District Interim Supt. Karen Hendricks announced earlier today that administrators will remove Franco’s paintings from the MAC, just days after hiring workers to paint over his mural on the Student Center. “Related to this [the removal of Franco’s first mural in 2016], district staff recently considered the best interests of our students in the light of our educational mission, and decided to remove and return the remaining artwork,” Hendricks wrote.
