Finding Palo Alto High School students playing volleyball on the Quad may be surprising to outsiders, but upperclassmen recognize the annual Associated Student Body intramural volleyball tournament as a Viking tradition. This year’s tournament will be next Monday through Thursday.
The annual event is a great avenue for uniting the Viking community, according to junior president Jaiveer Sandhu.
“The tournament will be a fun way to spend lunch with friends competing against other teams,” Sandhu said. “ASB is always looking for events to help improve student life and campus and we believe the intramural volleyball tournament will achieve that.”
According to the ASB sign-up form, each team must have between six and eight players, at least one underclassman and one upperclassman, no more than one varsity volleyball player and no more than five people from one grade on a team.
Winners of the tournament can expect prizes, according to the sign-up form. First place team members will receive a $20 Chipotle gift card, second place will receive $15 Chipotle gift cards and third place will receive $10 Chipotle gift cards.
Sandhu says that ASB expects a lot of students to participate.
“This has been a popular event at Paly in the past and will be this year,” Sandhu said. “We expect that students will enjoy and hope to see a high turnout.”
ASB will choose brackets at random and post them outside of the Student Activities Office, to Schoology and ASB social media.
