The Palo Alto High School choirs are preparing for their annual Fall Concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Grace Lutheran Church.

The concert, titled “Gems,” is a showcase of classic choral pieces, according to senior choir student Clare Kemmerer.

According to junior choir student Anisha Patwardhan, choir’s diligence will pay off at the concert.

“We’ve been preparing so hard since the beginning of the year,” Patwardhan said.  “It’s always hard to make sure that everything is connected because it’s a new group at the beginning of the year but we’ve been doing really well and we’ve been staying really focused.”

The choir’s multiple divisions, Concert Choir, Spectrum Singers, Madrigal Singers and Beginning Choir will each be performing different songs, according to Patwardhan.

“We’ve been picking songs that aren’t simpler, but in terms of the notes, we can memorize them a lot faster,” Patwardhan said. “We are off book, which is unique because we can pay more attention to the conductor, connect with the audience more and we’re really excited for all of it.”

According to senior choir student Jenny Xin, the concert will not be traditional compared to past choir concerts.

“They [the songs] are all gems and classics, but they’re all kind of different and they show a different aspect of choir,” Xin said.

According to Paly choir’s website, concert tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children 12 and under can attend for free and tickets can be purchased at the door.
