Brennan-Jobs spoke at length about writing her memoir, "Small Fry," and the complex topics from her adolescence that it describes. “I do feel like I’m occupying space in a different way than I did when I started it [Small Fry], and that I’m not running as fast from something, and that I don’t feel embarrassed about myself," Brennan-Jobs said.

Although part of the school's administration team is new this year, Christiansen said that consistency to years prior can be expected. "Our principal's mission is to keep things steady, keep things consistent and really build on our roots and foundations," Christiansen said. "The bell schedule is different ... but really that's the only thing that should be changing."

Graphic Designer Kelly Kusumoto offers advice to students about the importance of gaining different types of work experience starting in high school. Kusumoto, herself began working a variety of jobs early on in her career including a jobs at Baskin Robbins and Staples. “You learn the skills of how to deal with people, how to clean things up, how to be responsible,” Kusumoto said. “And then when you get into your actual career job … you become more grounded in your role.”

Palo Alto High School junior Grace Lam demonstrates how she prepares for a Congressional Debate tournament, a process which includes extensive research as well as speech planning. Lam, along with seven other varsity team members, traveled to Arizona to take part in the competitive Arizona State University tournament over winter break, ending the tournament with several top finishes. According to Lam, preparation for the Congressional Debate event took her over 15 hours. "There’s always a lot of preparation that goes into travel tournaments because the stakes are higher," Lam said.
