Parents are praising the annual Parent Fair and Back-to-School Night taking place yesterday evening on the Palo Alto High School Quad.
Booths manned by students advertising clubs and opportunities filled the festive Quad with Paly pride. Parents were able to connect with programs such as Paly theater, Paly’s cheer team and extracurriculars including Speech and Debate.
According to Assistant Principal LaDonna Butler, Back-to-School Night was a success.
“The biggest thing is seeing families here on the Quad, enjoying each other, enjoying food and learning more about what we have to offer here at Paly,” Butler said. “It’s always great to see the freshmen parents come because they’re really excited about this new experience for their kids.”
The school prepared the event in collaboration with various parent organizations and Paly’s Associated Student Body. Aeshaan Singhal, a junior class senator, said that he has enjoyed volunteering at Back-to-School Night.
“I loved Back-to-School Night,” Singhal said. “It’s so important for these parents to see what Paly life is like and what class is like. It’s been really a fun experience for the parents and for ASB.”
ASB organized events including a speech by Principal Brent Kline and a performance by the Palo Alto High School orchestra.
According to senior band member Nusaybah Mohsin, this concert felt special.
“Usually our concerts are just family, so it’s really cool to show off our skills to a wider audience,” Mohsin said.
Parent Keith Chun said that he appreciated the community element of Back-to-School Night.
“The most important thing is that there’s a community of people who are really interested in this, and the fact that it’s so well set up shows that the school is really interested in this too,” Chun said. “I’m really excited to be here.”
