The Palo Alto Board of Education will consider approving new courses at a meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m at the district office.
Proposed course changes include a new nanotechnology class and a social justice pathway. The development teams for both the early childhood development class and the sports career pathway, whose proposals had also been on the agenda, have requested that the consideration of approval for their courses be moved to a subsequent meeting, according to the board packet created for the meeting.
English teacher Erin Angell hopes the night will go smoothly and that board approves the pathway she has worked on.
“I will be at the meeting tonight,” said Angell, who is on the development team for the social justice pathway. “My fingers are crossed that everything goes according to plan and the board decides to approve it. We’ve put a lot of work into it and a lot of research into it so I think it’s likely [that the board will approve it].”
School Board President Barb Mitchell is looking forward to discussing the new high school pathways at the meeting.
“I think Paly’s proposed social justice pathway and sports career pathway sound interesting and engaging for students,” Mitchell said.
