Coming off recent successes in both the Caltech Harvey Mudd Competition and the Bay Area Math Olympiad, the Palo Alto High School Math Club will compete in the Stanford Math Tournament on Feb. 15.
In the Caltech Harvey Mudd competition, Paly placed sixth out of 50 teams and Math Club president senior Jared Filseth placed in the top 10 individually, according to math teacher and instructional supervisor Radu Toma.
In the Bay Area Math Olympiad, Paly had all three of its participants place in the top eight. Seniors Filseth, Augustine Ho and Wayland Chiu placed first, seventh and eighth respectively, according to Toma.
The team looks to continue its strong performance in the Stanford tournament.
“I’m fairly optimistic,” Filseth wrote in an email. “Our team got 15th last year, and we’re hoping to do at least as well this year.”
The club meets once a week and is open to all.
“Everyone is encouraged to come we do lots of fun stuff every week,” Filseth said.
