With finals quickly approaching, Palo Alto High School’s library will once again extend its hours to allow students to stay later to study.

The library will remain open until 7 p.m. on Dec. 11, 12 and 19, and until 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, 17, and 18.

In addition to the later hours, the library will have snacks, provided by the Parent Teacher Student Association and the Associated Student Body, and an array of teachers to help students, according to special education classroom aide Deanne Elliott, who supervises the library after 4 p.m.

Elliott said that she believes that the increased library hours are beneficial to students.

“Students have told us that it works, it helps and it reduces some of the stress,” Elliott said. “There’s a lot of group studying going on, a lot of peer tutoring and it works out well.”

According to Elliott, many students take advantage of the library’s extended hours every year.

“Some nights there are 125 [students], there are a lot of students … so it’s been very popular,” Elliott said.

Although Elliott will need to stay on campus significantly later, she enjoys supervising the library during the extended hours.

“I like that the students have a place to come and study quietly,” Elliott said. “It’s a safe environment, we feed them and they appreciate it, so it makes it worthwhile.”
