The Palo Alto High School boys’ water polo team (22-5, 10-2) begins its playoff run tonight at home in the first round of Central Coast Section playoffs with a game against Pioneer High School.
Coming off a loss to Gunn (19-6, 12-0) in the SCVAL finals, 9-5, the Vikings are focusing on the future, according to senior driver Scott Powell.
“We lost a bit of momentum from the Gunn game,” Powell said. “We’re trying to pick it back up for this next tournament.”
The Vikings have not yet faced Pioneer this season, so they do not have a full scouting report, Powell said.
“It’s our first round in CCS, and we don’t know very much about Pioneer,” Powell said. “We’re just going in without much insight.”
However, despite the recent loss to Gunn, Powell is certain the Vikings will not let up.
“Our confidence is high as ever,” Powell said.
The opening round of CCS will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at the Paly pool. If the Vikings come out with the victory, they will face Gunn in a second round rematch.
