After four days of close scores, Spirit Week at Palo Alto High School will conclude tomorrow with the annual tug-of-war and the much anticipated spirit dances and float display.
The lunch rally will include the tug-of-war, while after school there will be another rally on the football field, showcasing the class floats and dances. The float themes will correspond to each class’ theme. This year will be particularly exciting because there will be more judges than usual. Around 20 judges including the Palo Alto mayor, vice-mayor and a few council members will participate, according to co-spirit commissioner, Junior Maya Ben-Efraim.
It will be an exciting day considering that the sophomores have held the lead through early Thursday.
“I remember last year there was the big freshmen upset [in tug of war], so we’ll see what happens this year,” said Ben-Efraim. “You never really know what is going to happen with tug-of-war.”
“I think we’ll do well,” junior Nick Beeson, who will represent the juniors in tug-of-war, said. “I hope we can rally up the troops, and come back after…being behind the first few days. So hopefully tomorrow we can come back and have a victory and win, which will push us ahead.”
Freshman are hopeful are as well.
“I think throughout the week the freshman have gotten better at cheering and showing our spirit for the school, and I feel like tomorrow we are going to do really well,” freshman Ethan Bundy said.
The fun will continue throughout the weekend with the homecoming football game on Friday night and the dance Saturday evening. The junior varsity team will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity team will follow at 7:30 p.m. The homecoming dance is formal this year and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Scores for day four will be posted after float building is over.
