Palo Alto High School students will kick of Spirit Week 2013 in style tomorrow, wearing the first day’s customary themed costumes.
Each year, every class chooses a theme that relates to their grade’s color. This year, freshmen are “Warning/Under Construction”to correspond with orange, sophomores are “Superheroes”to go with red, juniors are “Yellow Submarine” to match their yellow class color and seniors are “Survival of the Fittest,” to go with green. However, seniors will dress in 1990s fashion and save their theme for their class float and spirit dance on Friday.
Monday will also host the first Spirit Week competitions.
“For Monday specifically, there is a lunch rally and the activity [at] the rally is musical chairs,” junior Spirit Commissioner Maya Ben-Efraim said.
Each class will send one boy and one girl to compete against the other grades in a game of musical chairs. The classes will also compete for best-dressed and will be awarded points based on class spirit and cheers. The rally will be held at the football field.
After school, there will be float-building from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Float-building will continue throughout the week until Friday when the floats will be presented during the after-school rally.
Ben-Efraim has been working with co-Spirit Commissioner senior Keri Gee to organize Spirit Week and is excited for the festivities to begin.
“Every single day is going to be amazing,” Ben-Efraim said. “Keri and I have changed Spirit Week this year to make it bigger and better than ever, people have an amazing week coming up for sure.”
