The warning label on front of the lawn chairs informs students of how to maintain the chairs.

Seven of Palo Alto High School’s newly acquired lawn chairs have cracked under the strain of countless students, according to Principal Phil Winston.
“We ordered 100 and maybe seven total have been broken on accident,” Winston said. “We’re going to plan on ordering about 50 more. I figured we’d have some casualties. We’ll replenish them as the year comes to an end for next year.”
The 100 lawn chairs, which cost the school a total of $2000, have proven extremely popular with students and staff alike.
“It appears to be keeping more people on campus,” Winston said. “It’s an unintended byproduct of having the chairs.”
Students can freely take the chairs from their storage between the portables and move them about.
“The expectation is that if we have the chairs out on the quad, people should be cleaning up after themselves,” Winston said. “It’s been terrific. It is wonderful to see people care about their community.”
The Associated Student Body can be thanked for the debut of the lawn chairs and Principal Winston, who called the lawn chair initiative “terrific,” has high hopes for future of the faux wood grain, plastic blue chairs.
“My intention is to keep that [the lawn chair] tradition going,” Winston said. “I like it. I had two of my meetings outside on the chairs.”
