Assistant Principal Kimberly Diorio will take a maternity leave starting on Feb. 10; her responsibilities will be split between several different parties until she returns July 1.
“My last day at Paly will be Feb. 10… I’m due a couple of weeks after that,” Diorio said.
Several administrators will be taking on Diorio’s springtime responsibilities.
“They haven’t hired a sub for me; different people will pick up parts of what I do,” Diorio said. “For example, Assistant Principal Kathy Laurence will be taking over the master schedule, registration, and staffing: basically, a lot of that planning for the opening of school for the following school year.”
Besides Laurence, a few others will be picking up others of Diorio’s duties.
“Mr. Tuana will be working closely with the special education department, something I spend a lot of time doing,” Diorio continued. “Ms. Shultz and the Guidance counselors will take on a bunch of smaller things.”
Some duties will be outsourced to a classified person the district has hired.
“The district is hiring classified support help for spring standardized testing like the star tests; [the person is] someone who has done it before, she’s good,” Diorio said.
Diorio said she would be an occasional presence on campus, and would definitely be attending graduation.
“I will be back July 1 for the start of the next school year but I’ll probably be around before then,” Diorio said. “I won’t miss graduation. I’ve never missed [one]. I want to see those seniors walk the stage. I love [it]; it’s the best day… an important day. “
“I live locally, I’m nearby — only a phone call away. You won’t even know I’m gone,” Diorio added.
Her baby will be a girl.
“I [also] have a 2 and half year old, so sisters!” Diorio said. “This will be my second and my last.”
