The Palo Alto High School Guidance Office is undergoing construction with the addition of a new window, scheduled to be completed today.
The installation has forced the displacement of three offices, but the Guidance staff have not encountered any significant issues because of the temporary change, according to Guidance Counselor Susan Shultz.
“It [the construction] has displaced three offices,” Shultz said. “Three people have had to either double up or move just so we don’t get hit with debris. But everybody’s willing to do what they have to do. We’re a flexible bunch.”
Construction for the window started three weeks ago. The replacement commenced because the old window was not only considered hazardous but it was also time for regularly scheduled maintenence, according to Principal Phil Winston.
“The window was falling apart,” Winston said. “Little panes of window were falling out and it was becoming unsafe. It was part of regularly scheduled maintenence on the building.”
Winston added that the window to be installed will be more energy-efficient than its predecessor in addition to greater aesthetic appeal.
“The new one’s [window] going to be gorgeous.” Winston said. “It’ll be double-paned; better for insulation and better for energy-efficiency.”
