Seniors continue holding lead after Color Day

[[nid:28568 left full]]

Palo Alto High School seniors remain in first place with 397.5 points following today’s Spirit Week rally, despite penalties for unsportsmanlike cheers.

Juniors are following 35 points behind in second place at 362.5. Sophomores have tallied 307.5 points, while the freshmen stand at 212.5.

The rally commenced with the classes chanting cheers, which quickly turned into a chorus of insults. Classes that used cheers not pre-approved by Student Activities Director Matt Hall were deducted points.

“I reviewed all cheers prior to Spirit Week,” Hall said. “Any that are made up on the spot or contain unsportsmanlike material are minus points. There is nothing creative about being rude and reaching for low hanging fruit.”

Both sophomores and seniors lost 50 points each for inappropriate cheers. The freshmen, however, caught on with a series of successful cheers during the rally.

“I think we did awesome for freshmen,” freshman president Claire Liu said. “We were pumped, we were spirited, and we were awesome.”

Today’s main rally event was the relay race, in which participants carried an egg on a spoon across the quad and partook in a wheelbarrow race as well as a tricycle sprint. Each contestant’s goal was to carry a PowerBar through the entire relay to an eater designated by each class.

Senior eater Scotty McComas served in both grueling rounds.

“It was like eating 15 buckets of chocolate and peanut butter,” McComas said.

The sophomores won the relay, with the seniors placing second, the juniors third and the freshmen last.

The rally concluded with the “best-dressed” contest, which the seniors won after garnering support from both the freshmen and the juniors.

Tomorrow is “generation” day; freshmen will dress as babies, sophomores as greasers, juniors as sophisticates, and seniors as senior citizens.
