Palo Alto High School’s Associated Student Body posted a list Friday after school of the students who will serve in elected offices next year.
Junior Uma Veerappan will lead ASB as president, with a cabinet consisting of junior Maddie Kuppe as vice president, junior Jared Swezey-Gleason as secretary and junior Kevin Wang as treasurer for the 2011-2012 school year.
The senior, junior and sophomore class president positions will be filled by Sam Blake, Jessica Tam and Alex Hammer, respectively. The senior, junior and sophomore vice presidents will be Zorawar Singh, Soo Song and Curtis Wu.
The ballots were counted Thursday during fourth period and lunch, and the list posted by ASB’s current adviser, Kindel Launer, on Friday.
According to Veerappan, her first priority as president is to revamp the fourth period representative system in order to increase communication between the student body and ASB.
“I think it’s important to increase ASB transparency and make sure that studnets know exactly what ASB is up to and know what we are spending money on,” Veerappan said. “One of my primary goals is to make sure ASB has an active role in student life.”
Veerappan expressed her thoughts on working with the other officers.
“I’m definitely looking forward to working with the rest of the ASB candidates,” Veerappan said. “At the beginning of the year everyone will find their place and start to understand the rules, purpose and function of ASB and I think this will bring the class together as a whole.”
Veerappan also anticipates working with ASB’s new adviser.
“I’m really excited to work with the new adviser,” Veerappan said. “ASB met him today and I think next year will run smoothly.”
