The Palo Alto High School boys’ tennis team (13-10, 3-9) finished its season after losing in the first round of the Coast Central Section team championship match.
The Vikings achieved its goals this year by placing first in the California High School and Fresno division tournament, staying in the De Anza League and making it to CCS.
According to head coach Andy Harader, the team’s success came from its chemistry.
“We had great team chemistry this year,” Harader said. “All players respected and cared for each other. Thanks to Chirag Krishna, we had good leadership as well.”
The Vikings will lose four seniors — Chirag Krishna, Andy Hammer, Scott Monismith, Lucas Fodor — due to graduation and one sophomore, Philipp de Fries, an exchange student who is returning home in Germany.
Coach Harader expects junior Justin Wang to lead the team next year, along with junior Nicky Hu if he decides to rejoin the team. Hu did not play this year because of his busy schedule.
“Nicky Hu (No. 90) national ranking in 18’s will be back on the team,” Harader said. “Nicky Hu and Justin Wang would prove to be a formidable leader core.”
According to Harader, the Vikings will use next year as another rebuilding season, as they plan on staying in the De Anza League.
“I have no expectations for next year,” Harader said. “I hope we have great performance and sound team chemistry. We are in a very competitive league and section so I hope we can stay [in De Anza League].”
