Palo Alto High School is unofficially the best public school in the section after its boys and girls teams both took second place at the Central Coast Section Swimming Championships today at the George F. Haines International Swim Center.
Although the girls hope of their first CCS title since 2005 were dashed when their 200 yard medley relay was disqualified for an early relay start, they rallied to take second place for the third consecutive year. The girls were led by standout individual performances from juniors Jasmine Tosky and Margaret Wenzlau and seniors Sarah Liang and Sabrina Lee. Tosky was a double winner in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. The Vikings also took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The boys matched their best finish ever thanks to strong contributions from underclassmen and solid relays. Senior Arseniy Kotov, junior Byron Sanborn and freshmen Andrew Liang and Willy Lee all scored valuable points in their individual races. Despite not winning a single event, an impressive Viking team was able to take second only to Bellarmine College Preparatory who won an incredible 27th title in a row.
