Pick-up kickball will begin today during lunch on the El Camino field behind the science building.
The pick-up games were created by Assistant Principal Kathie Laurence due to sparse attendance in intramural sports. Laurence hopes unoffical pickup games like tomorrow’s kickball event will attract more students.
“We’ve been trying to do intramurals; it’s not working,” Laurence said. “It’s out of the ordinary. Let’s try kickball.”
Staff from the YMCA will provide sports equipment, such as rubber balls, for students to play with. Laurence plans for students to be able to play three games as long as enough students attend.
“The Y will be here and bring equipment,” Laurence said. “We can run at least three games depending on how many kids show up.”
All students and faculty are welcome to attend and play, according to Laurence. Students will form their own teams on the field, which will be officiated by staff from the YMCA.
“Hopefully we’ll have a ton of kids,” Laurence said.
If attendance is high, another pick-up game will be scheduled for Friday, according to Laurence.
