Books about African American history are displayed in the Paly library as part of a celebration of Black History Month. – Rachel HarrusSpecial displays and drawings highlight the Palo Alto High School library’s celebration of February as Black History Month.
Non-fiction books about African American history are displayed on several of the carrels while a special collection area features histories, biographies, poetry and fiction by African American authors, librarian Rachel Kellerman said.
The displays on the carrels are meant to expose students to different ideas and spark their interest in African American history. Kellerman likened them to the way the internet constantly feeds information to users.
“The idea is that you sit down and get something pushed at you,” Kellerman said.
According to Kellerman, students can participate in drawings throughout February to win In-N-Out gift cards by submitting a sticky note with a fact about African American history. The librarians will then post the sticky notes around the library, which Kellerman hopes will allow students to just “happen upon knowledge” as they move throughout the library.
