Last Saturday, the Palo Alto Unified School District had to remove two oak trees from Palo Alto High School due to an outbreak of fungal root disease.
District arborist Debbie Ellis, who regularly checks up on the trees at Palo Alto High School, diagnosed the destructive fungus, armillaria, as the cause of the disease.
In an email with Assistant Principal Jerry Berkson, PAUSD Operations Supervisor Chuck McDonnell stated that he would work with the Paly Landscape Sub-committee to plan the replanting and restoration of the area. McDonnell also hoped to see tree replanting in the nearby bike cage.
