As part of a community effort to promote teen health, Paly students who have returned the signed consent form will take a survey on Thursday during tutorial about their views regarding their relationship with their peers and the larger community, according to Amy Drolette, the Palo Alto Unified School District coordinator of student services.
The survey is based on the “41 developmental assets” developed by Project Cornerstone, a Santa Clara County-based teen-health organization. The 41 assets comprise of such influences as neighborhood friendliness, family openness and academic environment, which are key elements for the growth of healthy young adults, according to Greg Hermann, a city of Palo Alto management specialist.
Students should be aware that the information is to be kept confidential and is to be used for the benefit of Palo Alto’s Project Safety Net, a community task force to help maintain teen wellness. Hermann said that Project Safety Net will use the data collected to build a framework of reference to gauge where students stand on factors such as pressure and stress with their surroundings.
