The Palo Alto High School Unity Club will postpone their Mexico Independence festival due to calendar issues. The event was initially scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16, but has been moved to a future date.
“We are working on planning the celebration for Mexico’s Independence,” club member Osceola Ward said. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen this week since we have events on the calendar that we were looking forward to doing as well. But we’ll see.”
The festival will celebrate Mexico’s 200th year of Independence, which the country acquired on Sept. 16, 1810. According to Ward, the Unity Club wants to bring multicultural awareness and appreciation to Paly.
“Our goal is to celebrate the diverse culture that Paly has and to appreciate all the different components that make up this really diverse school,” Ward said.
The club is anticipating a high number of attendants at the festival. Ward has high hopes that the club will grow due to this event.
“We hope that our club will get bigger this year,” Ward said. “Last year we had around 50 members and hopefully more people will join and attend the celebration.”
Unity Club will plan out the new date of the event during their next meeting.
