Paly’s Bhangra Club will perform at the El Camino Hospital’s Day of Dance at 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 27, along with other participating dance groups.
Other dance troupes include two-time Dancing with the Stars winner Cheryl Burke’s professional studio, according to Bhangra club co-president senior Jujhaar Singh.
The presidents of the club chose songs for this event, according to Singh.
“All the songs are Bhangra,” Singh said. “Specifically, we are dancing to ‘Baniye ni Jatt,’ ‘Udeeqan,’ and ‘Teer’.”
The dance is similar to the one performed with the Paly Dance Company at the BCDC event earlier this year, but with an additional song.
“We’re dancing to the two songs previously performed at the BCDC as well as a dance recently choreographed by Jujhaar,” member senior Patrick Liu said.
Like their previous performance, the dancers will have special outfits for this performance.
“Girls are wearing Indian salwar kamizes and guys are wearing jeans and shirts,” Singh said.
Singh has a clear idea of what he hopes to gain from this experience.
“Our goal for this [performance] is to bring more publicity and exposure to our Bhangra club since we are still relatively new, in addition to having fun, ” Singh said.
While team members have high hopes, they are most excited about seeing how they match up to the other groups that are doing Bollywood and Bhangra dancing.
“This is the first time we’ve performed outside of the Paly community, so I’m really excited to showcase everything we’ve been practicing,” said Liu.
