Students and staff members can bring their clean winter coats and sweaters to school until this Friday, Jan. 15 to help people at the Opportunity Center survive the cold weather, according to senior Wade Hauser, who is organizing the event.
People can bring their donations to the bins in the library and tower building, as well as to a table in the quad during lunch everyday, Hauser said.
Hauser is partnering with One Warm Coat, an organization that supports various fundraising initiatives around the country.
“I submitted my plan to their Web site and they mailed me a pamphlet and poster to help advertise my coat drive,” he said.
Hauser hopes to reach his target number of coats.
“I already have 17 but my goal is 50, so I still need more donations,” he said.
The Opportunity Center provides low-cost housing to those in need, in addition to health care services and other basic necessities. It’s sponsored by the Community Working Group and operated by InnVision and Santa Clara County’s Housing Authority, according to the CWG Web site.
