Palo Alto Weekly’s annual Moonlight Run & Walk is this Friday, Oct. 2, at the City of Palo Alto Baylands Athletic Center.
This annual event is a chance for people to participate and have fun without the stress of competition, according to senior Natasha Haris. It consists of three parts: a 5k walk at 7 p.m., a 10k run at 8:15 p.m. and a 5k run at 8:45 p.m.
Although the pre-registration deadline has passed, people interested can still join at the race-night registration, which begins at 6:15 p.m. and costs $30.
Races will only be timed for the 5k and 10k run and results will be posted on Palo Alto Online on Oct. 5. There will be divisions for each age group, as well as divisions for male and female runners. The top three runners in each division will receive prizes and awards at the end of the event.
It is strongly suggested that participants bring flashlights for the run, as the only light provided will be from the full moon.
In addition to flashlights, participants are asked to bring their used athletic shoes which will be sent to orphanages and other places of need. For more information about this donation program, click here.
Food and music will be provided throughout the night.
This event has been a long-standing tradition and many Paly students have participated in past years.
“Last year I had a great time, and [I] am looking forward to doing this again because I get to do two things I love — run and have fun,” Haris said.
