The Paly girls’ water polo team (4-3, 2-1 SCVAL) dropped a 7-4 decision at league rival Los Altos on Tuesday.
The Vikings came out tentatively in the first half, which led to a 5-2 Los Altos lead. However, Paly came out shooting in the 3rd quarter while playing shutdown defense to make the score 5-4. In the fourth quarter, Los Altos capitalized on a bad Palo Alto pass back to the goalie, stealing it and scoring an open cage goal.
Attempting to cut the Eagles lead, the Vikings tried to steal the ball from the Los Altos goalie. However, the tactic backfired as Paly left a player unguarded on the other end of the pool to score an easy goal.
Palo Alto managed to steal the ball from the goalie in the dying seconds of the game, but its last offensive possession ended with an errant shot. Sophomore Skylar Dorosin, junior Rachel Harrus and seniors Malaika Drebin and Shameem Jamil all scored for the Vikings.
The Vikings’ next game is at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, against Menlo Atherton at Sacred Heart Preparatory in the Amanda MacDonald.
