Safe Ride holds fundraiser at Quiznos

The Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding a fundraiser this week, May 18 until May 22 at Quiznos on University Avenue to support the Red Cross’ Safe Ride program. During the fundraiser, Safe Ride will receive 25 percent of the proceeds from Quiznos customers.

According to the Silicon Valley Red Cross’s Web site, Safe Ride is run for teens by teens and provides free rides home to teenagers in order to help them avoid drunk driving situations.

Created in 1984 by Palo Alto and Gunn High School students, Safe Ride has provided thousands of rides to high school students across the Bay Area.

Safe Ride operates from 10 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights during the school year. To request a ride, call (877) 753-RIDE. For information about volunteering, call (650) 688-0445 or visit the Safe Ride Web site.
