Key Club to host Jamba Juice fundraiser to benefit Relay for Life

Paly Key Club will host a fundraiser event from April 20-26 at Town and Country’s Jamba Juice, with 20 percent of proceeds benefiting Relay for Life of Palo Alto, an active organization of the American Cancer Society.

According to junior Key Club president Erika Ji, Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity, bringing together communities across the country to raise funds for and spread cancer awareness.

The American Cancer Society created Relay for Life in 1986 to fund “cancer research, early detection and prevention education, advocacy efforts, and life-affirming patient services,” according to the official Relay for Life Web site. Each team representative walks around a track for 24 hours, starting from 10 a.m., to show that the battle against cancer never stops.

“Relay for Life is about uniting against the front of cancer and honoring cancer survivors,” Ji said.

Ever since Relay for Life was established in Palo Alto, Key Club has actively raised funds for the organization by holding weekend car washes during the summer. In addition to these car washes, the club plans to hold bake sales and host a dance this year. This fundraiser with Jamba Juice is one of several fundraisers Key Club will host.

“One of our coordinators spoke with the manager of Jamba Juice, and we publicized the event to the entire school,” Ji said.

The 2008 Relay for Life of Palo Alto took place at the Paly track and field on Aug. 16.

With these fundraiser events, Key Club hopes to raise around $4000 for Relay for Life of Palo Alto, according to Ji.

The proceeds will only go to Relay for Life if community members show the official flier when making a purchase at Jamba Juice.

Fliers for “Jamba’s School Bananananza ’09” can be printed from Paly Key Club’s official Web site here.
