John Olson recaps the all school rally on Friday, Feb. 20.

John Olson: Hi, I’m John Olson, and you’re listening to another episode of Voice Waves. Paly students defeated the staff, 7-5, in an exciting basketball game at the all school rally in the big gym today between fourth period and lunch.

The rally kicked off as the Paly pep band blasted students with music as they entered the gym. Once everyone was seated, the ASB sports commissioner gave a recap of the fall and winter sports, highlighting each team’s achievement. The Paly cheerleaders followed up the recap with a performance. The Paly cheerleaders, who placed second in the national competition, put on a great show as they danced and threw each other in the air.

Next, the basketball teams were called onto the court. Nick Robinson introduced the student team, and called each player onto the court using entertaining nicknames such as John “The Stick” Christopherson, and Pierce “Kitty Cat” Marchant.

The game was soon underway with the staff cheating from the get-go, snatching the ball from the ref at the tip-off. After three minutes of foul-filled, lackadaisical basketball, the score was tied at five all. At the half time, the Paly Dance Company preformed and ASB threw free gifts to the crowd including water bottles and towels.

In the second half of the game, the students were able to squeak out a victory with a last-minute basket. ‘The final score was 7-5. Better luck next time staffers!
