Podcast: Weekly Update (Jan. 30, 2009)

Anna Bastidas and Vienna Tran of The Paly Voice recap the week of Jan. 23-30, 2009.

The following is a complete transcript of the above podcast.

Bastidas: Hi Paly, this is Anna Bastidas and Vienna Tran of The Paly Voice bringing you the latest news from the Paly campus in the week of Jan. 23-30 in the first of many weekly podcast updates.

Tran: In sports news, Paly’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams battled those of cross-town rival Gunn on Jan. 23. While the boys’ team clinched a 45-44 victory over the Titans, the girls’ team suffered a 55-21 loss. On Wednesday, Paly boys soccer held onto the No. 1 division spot with a win over Los Gatos, 1-0.

Bastidas: In other news, Paly freshman Jason Maa came in second in the Mr. Key Club Pageant last Saturday.

Tran:The Campanile came out this week – if you haven’t picked up your copy you can find the articles online. Their front page story describes how Paly’s truancy rates are higher than the state average.

Bastidas: Also, congratulations to senior Tim Qin! His drawing entitled “The Amazing Mind of Teenager” is heading to the state level of the National PTA Reflections contest.

Tran:There was a book club discussion covering local author Brian Copeland’s novel, “Not a Genuine Black Man” on Tuesday at lunch hosted by the Palo Alto city librarians. Copeland was scheduled to visit on Wednesday, Jan. 28, but cancelled last minute due to illness.

Bastidas: Friday, Jan. 30, is Band Night at Mitchell Park Community Center. Performances from local high school bands Furious George, Corner Street Light and The Daybreakers will be held from 7-10 p.m. This event is hosted by the Palo Alto Youth Council. Tickets are $4 at the door, and food and drinks will be sold there.

Tran:This was Anna Bastidas and Vienna Tran for The Paly Voice. Tune in next week for the latest news.
