VoiceCast: Weekly Update (April 24, 2009)

Anna Bastidas and Vienna Tran of The Paly Voice recap the week of April 20 to April 24, 2009.

The following is a complete transcript of the above podcast.

Bastidas: Hi Paly, this is Anna Bastidas and Vienna Tran of The Paly Voice bringing you the latest news from the Paly campus for the week of April 20 to April 24.

Tran: This week was Not in Our School Week. Everyday there were lunch time activities such as a flag parade, t-shirt decorating, Earth Day celebration, and dissolving stereotypes activity. There were also performances by Stanford a cappella group Talisman on Wednesday, and The Paly Dance Company put on a show and students performed their own poetry yesterday.

Bastidas: Unfortunately, some students were forced to miss these activities in order to attend AP registration in the Haymarket Theater during lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Tran: In sports news, Paly’s varsity lacrosse team beat Gunn, 11-10, last Friday on both teams’ Senior Night. The team was also successful in their last two games. In Tuesday’s game, the girls suffered through the heat and beat Mercy-Burlingame, 11-5. On Wednesday, varsity played in the cool San Francisco breeze and left the city with an 8-4 victory over University of San Francisco High School. The team currently holds a 13-1 record. Come support the team as they play Burlingame next Tuesday at Burlingame.

Bastidas: Congratulations to boys’ tennis who beat Saratoga, 5-2, on Tuesday.

Tran: Paly’s varsity baseball team managed to pull ahead against Monte Vista, leaving the diamond with a 7-5 victory after being behind in the last inning. Monte Vista will be looking to redeem themselves when they come to Paly to play the Vikes a second time on Paly’s home field. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Bastidas: Varsity softball managed to shut out Los Altos, 2-0, on Wednesday. Come support the team next Wednesday in their game against Santa Clara. It’s an away game but if Paly wins, the team will take first place in their division, a title that it currently shares with Santa Clara.

Tran: On Saturday, the girls’ swim team beat last year’s North Coast Section champion Campolindo High School by half a point, which portends a strong CCS finish this year.

There are track and field, lacrosse, baseball, badminton, and softball games next week. Check online for times and locations at palysports.com

Bastidas: This week, Paly Key Club is hosting a fundraiser at the Jamba Juice in Town and Country. When you present a flyer, 20 percent of proceeds benefit Relay for Life of Palo Alto. The fundraiser is from April 20-26, and the link to the flyers is in the text below.

Tran:To those attending prom, have a great time. Please remember to arrive at Paly between 5 and 5:30 pm tomorrow, April 25. You will be Breathalyzed before boarding the bus, and the buses will not wait for late students. Don’t forget your ticket and student ID card. We’ll see you there!

Bastidas: This was Anna Bastidas and Vienna Tran for The Paly Voice. If you have any news that you think we might miss, email us at [email protected]. Tune in next week for the latest news.
