Assistant Principal Jerry Berkson confirmed the approximate completion date of the construction project within the next month.

“He [a construction worker] told us one week, but I’m thinking it will be around two weeks until the deck is finished,” Berkson said. 

According to Berkson, while using the same amount of space that the previous deck occupied, the new deck will feature a new pentagonal design and a more efficient seating layout.

“So you got the deck and then behind the deck are three 22 inch walls for more sitting space,” Berkson explained. “Then the curb is made a certain height so more people can sit around it.”

According to senior Reza Navadeh, the availability of a new deck will provide a new gathering place to meet new students.

“The senior deck is my way of meeting a bunch of seniors and it’s my last year before leaving so might as well get to know those people,” Navedeh said. ” I look forward to it being built and when it comes back, it will be fun again.”

While the deck is known as “senior deck” according to Paly student tradition, it is technically available for all students to use.

“Mostly it will be run by seniors but there will be the occasional underclassmen hanging around,” senior Dylan Hu said.
