Paly revives tradition of Sadie Hawkins dance

ASB will bring back the lost tradition of the Sadie Hawkins dance to the Paly campus on March 1.

“We wanted to revive an old tradition and most other schools have it, so we decided to bring it back,” junior social commissioner Helene Zahoudanis said. “This year is actually a trial run to see how successful it is and if people like it. Future Sadie Hawkins dances will depend on how this year’s goes.”

According to junior social commissioner Chris Wycoff, Sadie Hawkins dance is considered a date dance where girls ask boys.

“We are trying to have it be a couple’s dance but a lot of people might be intimidated by the idea of asking someone, so it’s not necessary to come as a couple but it is encouraged,” Wycoff said.

Gunn has an annual Sadie Hawkins dance and Paly has borrowed a few ideas which will be implemented this year. Spirit commissioner Morgan Pichinson is organizing a shoe drive which is something Gunn does. According to Zahoudanis, ASB will also hold a toy drive, but all the logistics involved – including finding a reward system – has yet to be decided.

According to Zahoudanis, ASB originally planned to have a specific theme but decided that it would be better to have a broad theme. The theme is “perfect match” and students are encouraged to dress up in matching colors, as celebrity couples, etc.

“If you are going to come with someone, you should come in something that matches and if you come as a group, then everyone can match,” Wycoff said.

The dance will take place in the big gym from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.on March 1 and tickets cost five dollars with a student body card and ten dollars without.
