Voter registration comes to Paly

Students that will be 18-years-old by Nov. 4 and eligible to vote in this year’s presidential election now have the opportunity complete the voter registration process at Paly.

If you missed the opportunity to register to vote Jan. 9-11 in the tower building, you can register online or download a Voter Registration Form from this website

Not only will students be able to vote in the national election in November, but students that register will also have the right to vote in California’s upcoming primary election on Feb. 5. To vote in the statewide primary election your registration must be postmarked by Jan. 22.

“It is hugely important for students to register to vote because these candidates are arguing issues that will affect us for our entire adult lives,” Rajan Narang, president of the Students for Obama chapter at Paly, said.

The Students for Obama Club was organized to rouse students’ interests in the issues surrounding the election and to incite student involvement in the election process. The club is also to rally support for presidential candidate Barack Obama, primarily to gather more local volunteers to help his campaign.

“It is very important to vote and the best way is to start early,” Irene Sampson, a volunteer from the League of Women Voters, said.

Vivian Blomenkamp, a fellow volunteer, believes that it is crucial to get as many students to register so that their voices can be heard.

“You will be leaders of the world and it is essential to take advantage of your right to vote,” volunteer Sue Kemp said.
