Lunchtime activities came to an end today, with the conclusion of the mummy wrapping competition as well as a performance by the Paly Dance Company.
The rivalry between sophomores, in first place, and seniors, in second, left the underclassmen on top. The seniors, who have been trailing all week, remain indifferent to the results.
“It doesn’t matter, we’ll come out on top,” said senior Sam Siegel.
The juniors went on to beat the freshmen in the consolation round. The sophomores, whose dominance over the week has given them a large first place margin, are very pleased with the outcome of the rally.
“I think it’s great we’re beating the seniors,” said sophomore Tessa Goble.
An abundance of noise and cheering contributed to the fun and entertaining lunchtime festivities. However, some of the students are a bit disappointed with the brevity of the rally, which ended 15 minutes before the end of lunch.
“The rally today seemed kind of short,” said Goble. “I’m hoping the after school rally will make up for it.”
The Paly Dance Company’s 2007 premiere also drew much attention from the student body. The dance company is an after school club that was originally not sponsored by the school. It has now become a major presence at many school events.
“I thought the dance was amazing,” senior Brooke Flohr said. “I’m glad they got to perform.”
The conclusion of Spirit Week falls on today’s after school rally. Much anticipation surrounds the event, which will include float presentations as well as class spirit dances. Points will be tallied up at the end of the daym and this year’s class champion will be announced.
“I’m definitely planning on going to the after-school rally and the homecoming dance,” sophomore Olga Bykov said. “I’m really excited.”
The afternoon rally will be on the track at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
