Principal to give State of the School address

Principal Jacqueline McEvoy will deliver her first “State of the School” speech at a Parent Teacher and Student Association meeting tomorrow, Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the English Resource Center.

“I think this is more of an update,” she said. “There’s nothing earth-shattering. The most intriguing information is from the [High School] Task Force. The third high school is off the table. We’re designed to hold about [the number of students] we have now. We have to consider what this means for programs. If we increase enrollment, can be broaden existing programs?”

The State of the School speech is an annual address given by the principal. McEvoy will be speaking about her early impressions of the school and goals for the year. She will also report the recent decision of the High School Task Force and discuss enrollment and Paly’s academic performance according to the Academic Performance Index.

McEvoy says that much of this information has already been conveyed to the teachers and several student groups. McEvoy said that this address is for parents, rather than students or teachers.

“Teachers may be there, but none of this is new to them. A lot was presented before school started. Students who are free are welcome to drop by, if they are interested. I think it’s good to set the stage for the school year, and as a new principal, I think it’s important to inform the community.”

The State of the School has been publicized through the Paly Link and PTSA information channels.
