Candidates for Sports Commissioner

Sports Commissioner is a new All Student Body position that will be added to Paly’s student government next fall. According to Student Activities Director, Allye Davies, the sports commissioner will have a number of responsibilities that include organizing rallies and attending sports booster meetings.

“The sports commissioner will also run the new student store and help organize the student section at sporting events,” Davies says.

Junior Dom Powell and Sophomore Sarah Adams are vying for the position; voting will begin on Wednesday, May 29.

Dom Powell

Junior Dom Powell is a two-sport athlete who hopes to become a three-sport athlete in his senior year. A transfer student from Las Vegas, Powell was a great asset to Paly’s Varsity basketball team as well as the Boys’ track and field team. He plans on joining the Viking football team this fall. Powell’s interest in all of Paly sports serves as his motivation for running for sports commissioner.

One of Powell’s objectives is to ensure equal attention to every Paly sport, especially spring sports, which tend to not get as much notice.

“I want to make sure that people get excited about spring sports,” Powell said. “I would try to use rallies to promote them.”

As for changes to the Paly sports program, Powell is interested in adding a lacrosse (both boys and girls) and hockey team.

Sarah Adams

Sarah Adams is an avid skier and soccer playing, splitting her time between the Paly Girls’ Varsity soccer team and the Sugar Bowl ski team. Adams’ main reason for running is her desire to make a difference in Paly Sports, including the addition of a lacrosse team.

“Paly needs to have more sports so that more people can participate in representing our school. Lacrosse is just one of those sports that Paly doesn’t have that many people play,” Adams said.

Along with the creation of new sports, Adams hopes to have more all-school rallies and bring more spectators to Paly sporting events.

“I participate in a lot of sports and I am very persuasive when it comes to getting things done that the student body asks for,” Adams said. “I am very enthusiastic about bettering Paly sports.”
