Cram session open to students

In order to display its new computer lab and revamped facilities, Mitchell Park Community Center is hosting a Cram Session tonight until 10 p.m. to allow high school students to study for finals.

Students who come can use the computer lab for completing research, presentations, projects and papers.

Veronica Sanchez, a program leader at the community center, says the idea was born during a staff brainstorm.

"People meet at coffee and donut shops to study," she said. "We thought it would be a good idea to have a supervised place where high school students could get together and study."

The cram session is new, but there are hopes that it will continue.

"This is the first time," Sanchez said. "We intend for it to become annual. It’ll definitely be here for [spring] finals."

Remodels were recently completed on the Mitchell Park Library and Community Community Center. The Cram Session was planned in part to highlight these changes.

Students convened in the main hall and computer lab.

Students had access to free food, which was donated by stores, including Safeway, Long’s Drugs, Subway, and Piazza’s Fine Foods.

"I found out when they gave me a slip at the library," Paly sophomore Stephan Wallace said. "I thought it’d be cool to go."

Another Gunn freshman, Daljeet Virdi, said, "I think it’s a lot quieter here than at my house. I’ve gotten a lot of studying done. I might come back tomorrow."

Paly freshman Tommy Ziperovich said, "It’s a nice place to study. It’s quiet, and there are computers and free food. I think it’s very useful. "
