Across grade levels, students bring a diversity of interests to Palo Alto High School, ranging from areas of business, religion, and mental health. During Club Day, which took place Thursday and Friday on the Quad, students were able to find communities that featured their niche passions.
According to freshman Eileen Lee, joining clubs lends the opportunity to build new friendships and make lasting connections.
“I’m looking forward to hanging out with some of my friends at their booths,” Lee said. “I feel that adjusting to high school, an important part of that is fitting into a group in terms of socializing more.”
Club presidents also have a renewed opportunity to attract new students to their clubs. According to AI Club president David Wu, Club Day is a great opportunity to connect with people and recruit new members.
“I love to see this energy and see all these clubs coming out,” Wu said. “I hope to get some publicity and get people excited about my club and our mission.”
According to first-year Associated Student Body adviser Alyssa Bond, the process of planning Club Day has been an enriching experience.
“It’s been a really big learning curve because so many students are so awesomely passionate about what they want to do with clubs,” Bond said. “It’s been challenging, but the level of engagement that students have with it is really rewarding.”
Bond said she hopes that students will find their community at Club Day.
“I would love our campus to feel very inclusive, and I think clubs are a really awesome way to gateway that,” Bond said. “You can join something that you’re interested in and meet other people that have similar interests to you … I see so many students out here and that’s really heartwarming. Hopefully everyone can find a club that speaks to them and that they can really get involved in.”
