In one of the most anticipated matches of the season, the girl’s varsity volleyball team lost a tough match to Archbishop Mitty in the CCS semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
The Vikes organization efforts were not enough to conquer Mitty, a school known for its excellent volleyball program. The Monarchs hits were overall stronger and they were able to recover quickly from mistakes.
“We were a little tight,” head coach Dave Winn said. “If our passing was better, then our hits would’ve been better, etcetera.”
The Vikes had sparks of energy for certain moments, but Mitty maintained control of the court for the majority of the match, winning two of the three games with significant leads.
“I think we were all a little intimidated,” senior co-captain Lindsey Spiegelman said. “We all said we weren’t, but it’s hard not to be. It’s Mitty.”
The second game was the only close one, with a final score of 25-20 in Mitty’s favor. The Vikes had more offensive success, with service aces from Spiegelman and senior Kristine Miller, who also had nineteen assists.
The Lady Vikes ended the season with a 27-9 record and were champions of the De Anza league.
“It’s always sad to end a season,” junior Hillary Ford said. “But I’m really glad we had the chance to play a team as good as Mitty.”
