Attendees are praising the Back-to-School Night activities this evening on the Quad, following the second year of Palo Alto High School’s Parent Fair.
Amid music and food, the evening began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the official opening of the new Tower Building, after over two years of construction.
Tables and booths were spread across the Quad, providing information on Paly organizations such as the Early Child Development pathway, Speech and Debate Club and AP Capstone program. The pep band and cheer team provided entertainment and added to the energy of the festivities.
According to Assistant Principal LaDonna Butler, the Parent Teacher Student Association arranged the event in hopes of promoting unity among Paly families.
“It was an opportunity to meet one another and build an understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish here, especially along the lines of core values,” Butler said. “We wanted to bring the families together and have some unity amongst one another.”
Parent Tatiana Sandler said she was impressed with seeing the campus and Tower Building post-construction.
“The campus is beautiful,” Sandler said. “The renovations have concluded, which is great, and the Tower Building is spectacular. I did a little tour and it’s an amazing building with amazing facilities.”
Parent Zixia Zhang said she appreciated the opportunity to learn about Paly’s programs and to become more involved in her child’s schoolwork.
“I found that it’s [Back-to-School Night] really useful because we are able to go to the classroom,” Zhang said. “Sometimes, our kids are very busy and they can’t tell us everything. Now we know how we can be more involved and how to support our kids.”
