Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) will present a study comparing the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) to five other school districts in the nation tomorrow in two locations.
"The presentation covers some background on the study and how we chose the districts [to analyze]," said Lois Garland, the organizer behind the presentation and Vice President of Governance in Palo Alto Partners in Education. "[It consists of] comparisons between budgets, revenues, expenditures, programs and staffing."
Garland and other community members will be presenting tomorrow at the District Office, 25 Churchill, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and also at Jordan from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Representatives from PAUSD and "benchmarking" team members, who researched the other districts and compared them to PAUSD, will be on hand to answer questions during the presentation.
"We had three major objectives for the study," Garland said. "The first one is truly to educate folks in the community about our program. The second is to provide a service for our staff [Palo Alto Partners in Education]; which will hopefully profit by knowing what other schools around the nation are doing. The third objective is that we hope through this work we can push that [the collaboration between schools and Palo Alto Partners in Education] even further."
Garland encourages everyone intrigued by PAUSD to come to the presentation.
"The target audience [for the presentation] is frankly the PAUSD community: whether that means students, parents or just people who are interested [in the school district]," Garland said.
Garland also noted that the presentation is not a fundraiser event for PAUSD.
"We really hope the information we are able to provide is helpful to our own district, and since we are sharing this information with the other districts, help them as well," Garland said. "We don’t have a pitch. It [the presentation] really has an educational objective."
