A raging sea of class colors filled the quad this afternoon as Spirit Week continued with the third lunch rally, moving the seniors up to second place.
The seniors, who previously had been lagging behind both the juniors and freshmen, regained confidence, winning both of today’s rally activities. The first activity was another eating contest, in which blind-folded contestants had to feed their partners ice cream.
"The ice cream was good," senior Uly Morales said
The juniors, who still hold their first place title, tied with the seniors in the ice cream contest. There was controversy between student government members whether the seniors or juniors finished the ice cream contest first, resulting in a tie. While the juniors were able to quanitatively land more bites in their contestant’s mouth, the seniors were able to feed all of the ice cream into their contestant’s mouth more quickly and in fewer bites.
The second activity was the traditional mattress race. This year, however, sheets were used instead of mattresses.
In this activity four teammates carry the fifth on a sheet wearing designated clothes from one side of the quad to the other. The fifth teammate then gives the clothes to the sixth member of the team, who puts on the clothes and is carried back, on the sheet, to the finish line.
The rally area was so full, many students had to pack together on the bleachers or stand on the grass.
"I think it’s fun," senior Zach Kouznetz said. "But all the bleachers are taken up by the time the bell rings so it’s hard to get a spot."
There also was not enough time to have a "Best Dressed" costume contest today, so each class missed a chance at earning more points. Classes have also lost points due to bad sportsmanship such as yesterday’s "Brokeback Mountain" senior-led cheer to the sophomores dressed as cowboys.
"I feel that the tone is more negative this year than it was last year," senior Skye Wanderman-Milne said.
Some students had other opinions on why last year’s Spirit Week was better than this year’s.
"I liked last year better because the seniors lost," sophomore Issac Shaker said. "It looks like they’re going to win this year."
However, it seems that many students are enjoying this year’s spirit week and continue to dress up and show their class pride.
With the points earned from today’s rally, seniors look forward to further domination and an eventual comeback.
"The seniors will win because they always find a way to win," junior Franny Canine said.
Tomorrow there will be a morning rally in the girl’s gym. Student government officials advise students to get there at around 7:45 a.m. to 8 a.m. and to bring $2 to be paid at the door. Doughnuts, milk, and juice will be served.
Float stuffing also starts tomorrow afternoon and will be held in the auto building after school.
The dress theme tomorrow is "Timeline," with freshman dressing as babies, sophomores as teeny boppers, juniors as sophisticates, and seniors as senior citizens.
Point Totals through Day 3:
First: Juniors 567.5
Second: Seniors 515
Third: Freshmen 450
Fourth: Sophomores 367.5
