Varsity water polo boys dominate in last league home game

Boys’ varsity water polo players celebrate a win of 13-6 and their undefeated status after playing Saratoga High School on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The game started out rough in the first quarter. Saratoga earned the first goal of the game when the ball hit the post and ricocheted in.

Sophomore Tim Wenzlau made a penalty shot with 5:58 left in the first quarter, tying the score up. The team stepped up their defense, making Saratoga players unable to score a shot within the shot clock time. The quarter ended with senior Paul Reamey scoring with 32 seconds left.

During the second quarter, juniors Michael Fortune and Neal Ketchum made skip shots. The Vikings scored four times while holding Saratoga scoreless.

By the final quarter, the Vikings were dominating. Junior Geng Wang intercepted a pass by Saratoga and went on to score with 5:38 left in the quarter and scored again later with an assist by Wenzlau.

"It is great to stay undefeated in league," coach Reid Particelli said.

Yet the team was not as enthusiastic about winning as they were proud of the team’s senior players.
