From improved study habits to better time management, students at Palo Alto High School are greeting the new semester with a renewed focus.
The Paly Voice asked students about the academic changes they wish to make in the second semester.
“I came into the first semester as a freshman wildly clueless about what to do. I definitely want to manage my stress — like if there is a test being graded, I am not going to spend my time worrying about it. Instead, I’m going to relax a little bit because I think that is very important as a high school student, and we don’t want to burn ourselves out.” — freshman Meghna Singh |
“I want to continue to improve my grades and make sure I maintain my GPA, maintain my extracurriculars and make sure that I keep being the student I strive to be academically.” — sophomore Brian Liu |
“The biggest difference in academics I’m trying to make is making sure I know and understand what’s happened in each class period. Even if I don’t completely get the material, it’s okay because the goal is not to have it perfect on the first try, as amazing as that would be.” — sophomore Jade Rothbaum |
“I need to make better use of prep time by preparing for classes. If you actually use your prep time to really plan, it could be a lot more effective because you’re in school, in a good environment, and planning ahead could save a lot of work.” — junior Darwin Rescorla |
“For me personally, I feel like I need to manage my time better because last year I procrastinated a lot. It’s the second semester of my senior year, so I don’t really care as much, but I will try to keep my grades not too bad.” — senior Cynthia Dong |
