Sexes unite for Paly's first "Battle of the Sexes" Friday

Paly’s first "Battle of the Sexes" will be held during lunch this Friday, May 26, on the quad. The "Battle of the Sexes" is a lunchtime competition between the males and females at Paly in a series of contests held to discover the so-called "superior sex".

"I think it will be a fun activity for the school," Kolby Dauler, associated student body vice president said. "I hope it will attract a lot of people and create a fun rivalry to get students involved in school spirit."

The event is entirely organized and run by members of student coucil.

"Students are planning this so its fun for students," Joann Vaars, student activities director said.

According to Dauler, the leader of the lunchtime activity group in student council, the "Battle of the Sexes" will consist of three main events: a bucket pass, a whipped cream game and an intelligence quiz. During the bucket pass, teams of four or five students will attempt to transport water from one pail to another by passing a bucket of water over their heads. In order to liven the competition, holes will be cut in the bucket.

"The bucket pass is a classic game that people have enjoyed both participating in and watching during past Spirit Weeks, so we decided to adopt it for the Battle of the Sexes," Dauler said.

The whipped cream game is new to Paly lunchtime activities and involves a jellybean placed inside a pie tin filled with whipped cream. The object of the game is to retrieve the jellybean without using your hands.

The intelligence quiz is also a new game, which tests students on gender-themed questions.

"It will be interesting to see how much one gender knows about the other," Dauler said. "Hopefully everyone will get a laugh out of it. I’m really jazzed."

During the intelligence quiz, members of one gender will ask the other gender questions about subjects that are stereotypical to their gender. For example, the girl team could ask the boy team what an "acrylic" is, and the boy team could ask the girl team who a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants is.

"I think the activity will get students motivated to compete," Dauler said.

To heighten the competitive atmosphere and unify teams, boys are encouraged to wear white and girls are encouraged to wear green on the activity day, in spirit of Paly colors.

"I hope this will become part of Paly tradition in the future," ASB president Mohammed Abid said.

"I would like to wish the girls good luck," Dauler joked. "They’re going to need it."
