Overcome with cravings for hotdogs and burgers, students eagerly waited in a line stretched around the student center for a free barbeque lunch provided by Student Council on Friday.
Organized by ASB vice president Kolby Dauler, the barbeque was adopted as a “victory barbeque” to celebrate Paly’s varsity boys basketball win against Laguna Creek the previous night, securing the Vikings for a spot in Saturday’s NorCal championship game.
Offering hotdogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers, parent volunteers did all the cooking and serving. One parent even came to volunteer dressed in a chef’s uniform.
“No one catered the event. Kind parents came to volunteer,” student activities director Joanne Vaars said.
Despite the extra long lines and the hamburgers running out quickly, students enjoyed the barbeque.
“I think we should have them [barbeques] more often,” freshman Courtney Hancock said. “The food is really good.”
According to Vaars, the next barbeque will be held during Paly’s annual Field Day in June.
